DIASPORA! 3-6 May 2024.
Celebrating Cultural Diversity Through the Arts
DIASPORA! was a groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind festival for Bristol and the South West, developed, produced, and presented by the Diverse Artists Network (DAN). Taking place for the first time in 2024, the festival celebrated the rich and underrepresented talent across the region’s diverse diasporas — including communities with roots in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Central and South America.
Over one vibrant long weekend, nearly 200 artists were platformed across more than 70 events in almost 40 venues. From music, film, and dance to storytelling, poetry, and visual arts, DIASPORA! brought together iconic venues, community initiatives, and local institutions to showcase the creative power of the region’s cultural communities.
The festival not only highlighted incredible talent but also aimed to build a more connected region — fostering collaboration, creating job opportunities, encouraging talent retention, and pushing back against the London-centric nature of the UK’s cultural sector.
The RISE Collective Youth Press Team was there throughout the festival, reporting live with vox pop interviews, conversations with artists and organisers, and capturing the energy and essence of this unforgettable celebration.
